The weather was perfect at Memphis International Raceway for the 2nd points meet of the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams and the racers were out in force. Local racers will compete in a total of 14 points meets throughout the season at MIR. As the season progresses the competition will build in intensity to determine who will emerge as the point’s leaders in each class. The leaders in points earn the opportunity to participate in the IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Team Finals October 4-6 and possibly the IHRA Summit Racing Equipment World Finals October 11-13 both hosted at Memphis International Raceway.
Buddy Ferrell from Brighton, TN takes the win over Kerry Caples from Bono, AR in the Super Pro Class. Ferrell wins with a .014 second reaction time, 4.846 ET at 139.13 mph. Caples with .024 second reaction time, 5.224 ET at 127.52 mph.
Tommy Jackson, Jr. from Millington, TN in his 1982 Firenze emerges as the Pro Footbrake Winner with .016 second reaction time, 6.798 ET at 97.47 mph. Kyle Rumley from Huntington, TN takes the Pro Footbrake Runner Up position in his 1978 Camaro with .023 second reaction time, 10.050 ET at 67.65 mph and takes the win in R.T. Turbines DOT Class in his 2001 Silverado with .017 second reaction time, 15.592 ET at 88.68 mph. Bradley Sander from Ripley, TN takes the R.T. Turbines Runner Up position in his 1985 Camaro with .085 second reaction time, 11.890 ET at 109.60 mph.
14 year old Clay Combs from Bells, TN wins the R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster Class with .025 second reaction time, 7.925 ET at 82.14 mph. Millington’s Tyler Poindexter was close behind as R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster Class runner up with .034 second reaction time, 7.943 ET at 81.85 mph.

The roar of engines filled the air on the opening day of racing at Memphis International Raceway. MIR kicked off the busiest racing season in the Mid-South on Sunday with the first point’s meet of the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams. The cool temperatures did not keep eager racers from showing up to test their skills after a couple months break.
The first winner of the 2013 season is 8 year old Devin Johnson from Collierville, TN. Johnson’s .003 reaction time, 13.813 E.T. at 47.04 mph came out on top of 13 year old Tyler Poindexter from Millington, TN in the R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster Class. Poindexter, R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragster Runner Up, finished well with his .110 reaction time, 8.310 ET at 80.78 mph, but went a little too fast with a breakout. Johnson explained that this was a new car and his first race ever. He said he has an awesome crew chief, Austin Johnson.
Cliff Hubbard from Millington, TN in his Infiniti takes the win in the R.T. Turbines DOT Class with .095 reaction time, 14.546 ET at 92.53 mph. John Buchanan from Bartlett, TN in his 1971 N0va was the R.T. Turbines DOT Class Runner Up. R. T. Turbines started the season a little sweeter for this class by doubling the posted awards for the day, when the race was down to the final rounds, the big announcement came and the racers were just exstatic!
Greg Rushing from Jackson, TN was the Pro Footbrake winner in his 1980 Camaro with .007 reaction time, 6.853 ET at 96.85 mph. Collierville’s David Ciarloni was the Pro Footbrake Runner Up with .045 reaction time, 6.010 ET at 114.20 mph.
In the Super Pro Class, Rusty Ashmore from Southaven, MS takes the win with .015 reaction time, 7.041 ET at 97.86 mph with Jeff Bobo from Walnut, MS with .023 reaction time, 4.793 ET at 141.49 mph as the Super Pro Runner Up.
