Thunder Jam to Roar Into Memphis - May 12

 Millington, TN. (May 1, 2012) – It is the single most recognizable name in all of motorsports and it is coming to Memphis International Raceway on May 12 to put on a show like never before. 
 

Grave Digger, Monster Jam’s most recognizable star, will headline one of the most value-packed shows in the MidSouth history as the Thunder Jam roars into Memphis International Raceway May 12 for one night of over-the-top motorsports action. 


 “We have raced jets, we have raced wheelstanders, we have raced some of the fastest cars on the planet, but on May 12 we are going to see a new star take the stage,” said James Marchyshyn, Thunder Jam Operations Manager. “When Grave Digger rolls onto the track with tires as tall as the tower, it is going to be a sight unlike anything we have seen at Thunder Jam before."

SUPER CHEVY SHOW A SUPER SUCCESS IN MEMPHIS

Memphis, T.N. (April 16, 2012) Memphis International Raceway is back in action after a successful Super Chevy Show, presented by GM Performance, returned to the track. Over ten thousand race fans came out to Memphis International Raceway to celebrate the heritage and craft of the American automobile and experience the racing action of the show.

For Chevrolet enthusiasts from racers to car show participants – Chevy is a way of life. Excitement and enthusiasm reverberated throughout the fans who had long-awaited the return of the Super Chevy Show at their home track. The overwhelming reaction from the crowd was, “Memphis is back!”

Five hundred classic, custom and new model Chevys from as far away as Michigan were showcased in Memphis International Raceway’s pit area for the car and truck show on Saturday and Sunday. While there were almost six hundreds participants in the show’s swap meet and car corral.

The Downtown Memphis Commission, the Tennessee National Guard and Memphis International Raceway will rev up Court Square from 10am to 1pm tomorrow with an automotive display in advance of MIR’s Super Chevy Show this weekend.


DMC Director of Marketing and Special Events Dawn Vinson said, “We are thrilled to be able to help bring this patriotic display to Court Square as a kick-off for our spring Downtown Alive performance series!  We hope that this free event will showcase Memphis International Raceway, one of our regional gems, and generate lots of excitement about its upcoming show.”


Featured in the display will be the National Guard sponsored display entries of NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr and their patriotic themed Hummer. SFC Paul Fisk, recruiter with the National Guard said, “This is a great public awareness opportunity for the National Guard. We’re please the Downtown Memphis Commission and Memphis International Raceway are supporting this initiative. We’re excited about being involved in displays with the Dale Earnhardt Jr team all over town this week in advance of Super Chevy Show this weekend at MIR.”

Memphis, T.N. (April 9, 2012) Memphis International Raceway is excited to announce the Super Chevy Show the weekend of April 13-15 presented by Chevrolet Performance. The heartbeat of America will resonate throughout the crowd as Chevrolet enthusiasts and families experience the thrill of racing and enjoy the American heritage and craft of the automobile at this memorable event.


There is something for everyone to enjoy at the season opener of the Super Chevy Show Series at Memphis International Raceway. Spectators can experience both Chevrolet’s rich history and see the latest American cars that will be showcased in the car and truck show on Saturday and Sunday. Hundreds of classic, custom and new model Chevys will line Memphis International Raceway’s pit area.  
On all three nights spectators can expect a steady clamor from the roar of race cars and jet engines as Jet Funny Cars and Pro Wheel Stander light up the night racing down the drag strip. Memphis International Raceway’s Pro Show line up cannot be matched featuring the Jet-Propelled World Record Holder, Rich Hanna and his “GOJO Firebird” Pontiac Jet Funny Car running at speeds of almost 300 mph. The GOJO Firebird will go up against the Speedcult Jet Funny Car driven by Freddy Sibley. Racing action on the drag strip will also include Nostalgia Dragsters, Pro-Mod Drag Racing, and a Fifth Generation Camaro Shootout.
The facility-wide event also boasts a vendor midway where event sponsors will display some of the latest automotive products and accessories available to owners of all Chevy-powered vehicles and a huge swap-meet and car corral on the west side of the championship drag strip.
